Honey Springs Sporting  Dog Training Facility

Honey Springs Ranch is part of Hollenbeck Canyon Wildlife Area owned and operated by the California Department of Fish and Game.

Development of the training facility was begun in 2009 by the San Diego County Wildlife Federation (of which the San Diego chapter of NAVHDA is a member organization) in coordination with DFG.

The area opened to the public in December 2010 for field training. There is still an enormous amount of work to be accomplished to accommodate all around training for both pointing and retriever breeds.

Currently San Diego area trainers must travel at least two hours in order to access water suitable for training their dogs. The next enhancement to Honey Springs will be training ponds.

As stated in the attached documents about Honey Springs, California Department of Fish and Game is like a lot of farmers in our country "land rich and money poor". Therefore the task of finding the financial resources to develop sites like Honey Springs falls to organizations such as the San Diego County Wildlife Federation and the San Diego Chapter of NAVHDA.
