San Diego Chapter
The San Diego Chapter is an official chapter of NAVHDA
International. We conduct our chapter activities in accordance
with NAVHDA guidelines and support the goals and objectives of
NAVHDA International. There are about 60 members in the San
Diego Chapter. Our members are a mix of experienced,
intermediate, and novice dog trainers. Our goal is to train
and assist hunters in the training of their dogs. A neophyte
hunting dog owner can participate in our chapter training days
and develop a finished hunting dog. We work with each other at
our training clinics to produce better trainers, better dog
handlers, and better hunting dogs.
We conduct official NAVHDA
tests once a year and welcome participation by both chapter
members and non-members. Testing is a means to determine how a
dog is progressing in its training, and how the dog measures
against the NAVHDA international standard.
There are many different
breeds of versatile dogs in our club. They include Vizsla,
Wirehaired Vizsla, German Shorthaired Pointer, German Wirehaired
Pointer, Brittany, Weimaraner, Griffon, Pudelpointer, French
Spaniel, Bracco Italiano, Spinone, Portuguese Pointer, Large and
Small Munsterlanders, and other NAVHDA recognized breeds.
If you think you are
interested in acquiring a versatile breed dog, a good place to
start would be visiting one of our training clinics. You can see
the various breeds in action, and talk to current owners.
At our monthly training
clinics, we work on the basic skills required of a versatile
hunting dog. These include field search, pointing, steadiness
to flush, shot and fall, water search, retrieving and tracking.
We train at several sites, depending on the type of training we
are trying to accomplish, and other factors like the time of
year.
Our rules
for our training clinic are simple, but effective in maintaining
the health and safety of our members and their dogs. Visit our
gallery of
Photos to see some of our dogs and members in action.
